Sunday Morning Picnic By The River

A couple of weeks ago on a warm(ish) Sunday morning my fiancé and I decided to break from our normal morning routine and enjoy breakfast outside. I made some homemade vegan granola and hot cocoa. I packed a picnic basket and off we went.

Luckily, we knew somewhere we could enjoy breakfast by the water surrounded by wildlife, and it was just a short walk away. On our walk, we spotted a gorgeous cardinal singing in a tree. We stopped and listened to him sing for a while then continued on until we arrived at a picnic table alongside the river, the perfect spot to enjoy our breakfast spread.

We laid our stuff out on the table and explored around us. We spotted early cleavers and crocuses, Spring has finally arrived! We made some avocado toast and ate our breakfast as we quietly observed nature around us.

Brand new cleavers with dew drops.

In the hour we sat and enjoyed our picnic we spotted a heron flying above the river, a groundhog peeking out of their hole, a neighborhood cat sneaking around, and a hawk resting in a tree. We heard birds singing, enjoyed a cool breeze, and watched some fishermen on the dock.

The morning was so calm. It was so refreshing to slow down and enjoy the energy of early Spring. It reminded me there is so much beauty in the world, you just need to take the time to be still in nature to see it.

Picnics are always the best with a loved one.
