Here in Zone 7b the time has finally come to start planting your Spring garden. With the last expected frost to be April 7th, frost tolerant plants like radishes, carrots, lettuce, peas, and many flowers are eager to get growing. Planting seeds is also a way to celebrate the Spring Equinox or Ostara, a celebration of new life on the Pagan Wheel of the Year.

Being a Green Witch I like to infuse magic wherever I can in my garden. Before planting any seeds I charged them with crystals associated with Ostara and gardening. One of my favorites is Moss Agate, a green and blue crystal that resembles moss and is often used to connect to nature and enhance your garden.

In my garden I’m growing a mix of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Some plants are strictly for practical purposes, like my chard for making tasty meals, but some plants are being grown for their magical and healing properties. Here’s a brief overview of some of the plants I’m growing in my Spring Garden with magical intentions and how I use them. Please remember there is a lot of varied folklore and different uses for herbs and vegetables, I am sharing the energies I associate them with in my personal practice.
- Calendula – vitality and healing salves
- Carrots – creativity and grounding
- Cilantro – love
- Dill – procession and prosperity
- Fairy Bouquet Flower Mix – to please the fae
- Linaria – to please the fae
- Snapdragons – protection
- Sweet Peas – to please the fae
I also have many perennial herbs like lavender and thyme that I use in my magical practice, I’ll share more about them in future posts!

When it was time to plant, I sowed each seed with intention and love. Carefully covering them with the earth and nourishing them with water. I gave them my regular speech, encouraging them to grow and be strong and happy and healthy. I planted them around the Virgo Full Moon which I hoped would boost their growth. It’s been a couple of weeks and we have many little sprouts! I’ll keep you posted on future growth and witchy garden tips!
